Since 1971, Family Health International (FHI) has been at the forefront of public health research in the developing countries. In collaboration with national governments, local communities and leading research institutions, FHI delivers services and conducts research in HIV/AIDS, other infectious diseases and reproductive health to improve the lives and well-being of some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. In Nigeria, FHI is engaged in public health services and implementing programs in HIV/AIDS, TB, reproductive health, malaria, and health system strengthening in partnership with the Government of Nigeria. To strengthen our operations in the country, we are seeking qualified candidates to fill the post of:

Community Health Officer

Location:  Bauchi Zone

The Community Health Officer will provide technical assistance to key stakeholders in the state ministries of health (SMOH) and local government areas (LGAs) in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the community component of HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and TB control activities

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate linkage of community activities  to facility-based activities
  • Strengthen community involvement and participation in community-based activities of HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and TB through engagement of the LGA health authorities, traditional and religious leaders, and other community gatekeepers
  • Transfer appropriate skills to community health workers, community volunteers, traditional birth attendants (TBAs), people living with HIV (PLWH) and their families
  • Work   with   implementing   partners   (community-based organizations) LGA PHC coordinators, disease control program supervisors and PHC personnel to coordinate and monitor the implementation of community-based HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and TB
  • Remained informed on developments in community-based aspect of HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and TB.

 Minimum Requirements

  • Registered nurse (RN)/Community Health Officer (CHO)
  • Should have 2-3 years experience in community health practice
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in care and support for HIV/AIDS. sexual and reproductive health and TB at the primary health facility or community level
  • Sound understanding of the relevant technical areas
  • Familiarity with the Nigerian public sector health system, NGOs and CBOs.
