A major international organization managing a large programme to support the reform and strengthening of the health care system in Nigeria is recruiting qualified professional staff to fill position based in Abuja. The programme supports the Federal and State Ministries of Health in transforming the health financing, management, and delivery of sustainable health services, and represents a major development initiative that seeks to enhance the long-term impact of investments in the health sector by requiring alignment among projects, country ownership of development policies and strategies, and stronger accountability mechanisms.
THE HEALTH EQUITY ADVISER (ABUJA):
- The Technical Lead on Health Equity will be senior member of the project team, based in Abuja and reporting directly to the Technical Coordinator. The overall purpose of the post: is to take technical lead on gender equality and social inclusion
- S/he will support senior management in steering the programme towards a coordinated and synergistic approach to health equity.
- S/he will spend the majority of her/his time working with and supporting other projects team members, government stakeholders and civil society partners in Abuja and the focal states to institutionalize and action health equity: considerable travel will be involved
- S/he will work closely with senior management analyzing defining and negotiating health equity targets for the programmes to enable the project to achieve log-frame commitment.
- Through collaborative and participatory style of working, the Technical Lead will support team members and partners in the analysis of the underlying and intermediate determinants of exclusion from health and how this impacts on use of health services and health outcomes, consensus building and prioritizing of explicit health action by the project
Qualifications Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Public Health, International Development, gender studies, social sciences and other relevant fields of study
- Minimum of 10 years experience or working in the health sector including the design of research, and analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data.
- Considerable experience of working as part of a large multi-disciplinary technical assistance team
