In collaboration with national governments, local communities and leading research institutions, FHI delivers services and conducts research in HIV/AIDS, other infectious diseases and reproductive health to improve the lives and well-being of some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. In Nigeria, FHI is engaged in providing public health services and implementing programs in HIV/AIDS, TB, reproductive health, malaria, and health systems strengthening in partnership with the Government of Nigeria. To strengthen our operation in the country, we are seeking qualified candidates to fill the post of:
Senior GIS Officer
Location: Country Office, Abuja

Under the supervision of the Associate Director Monitoring and Evaluation, the Senior GIS officer will be responsible for the planning, development, maintenance and evaluation of FHI Nigeria’s geographical information system (GIS).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement GIS applications and manage spatial databases using the. database approach incorporates the following principles: (i) data remains consistent across the database, (ii) data is clearly defined, (iii) users access data concurrently in a format that suits their needs, (iv) there is provision for data security and recovery control. The application designs include webs desktop and mobile GIS application designs,
- Design and create other products, e.g maps, digital data, reports and statistics
- Prepare and maintain, metadata documentation of GIS database ,
- Participate in specific project needs analysis, customizing desktop GIS software for GHAIN applications and teaching desktop GIS software skills to users, while providing support for projects requiring GIS technology and other projects assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Candidate must possess Masters degree in GIS or related field with at least 5 years relevant experience and a minimum of 2 years experience of GIS related work o a comparable environment
- Or PhD degree with 3 years experience and strong background in geospatial and health information systems
- Experience in GIS application development and customization
- Experience working with GIS tools such as ArcGIS 9.x
- Working knowledge of relational databases
- Experience in HIV/AIDS programming
- Experience working with NGOs and CBOs will be an advantage.
