Since 1971. Family Heath International (FHI) has been at the forefront of public health research and intervention programs in the developing countries. In collaboration with the national governments, local communities and leading research institutions, FHI delivers services and conducts research in HIV/AIDS, other infectious disease and reproductive health to improve the lives and well-being of some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. In Nigeria, FHI is engaged in providing public health services and implementing programs in HIV/AIDS, TB, reproductive health, malaria, and health systems strengthening in partnership with the Government of Nigeria. To strengthen our operations in the country, we are seeking qualified candidates for the position below:

Position Title:    Senior Advisor OVC, Care and Support

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Medical Services (Community) the Senior Advisor OVC, Care and Support will coordinate and provide technical assistance for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) including care and support activities as part of the program for FHI Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Associate Director, Medical Services (Community) to provide technical assistance in the design, implementation, and evaluation of national level OVC and care and support activities for FHI Nigeria, which involves community-based interventions linked to facility-based services
  • Provide technical support in building the capacity of local implementing agencies and state counter parts to (1) carry out care and support programs specifically related to orphans and vulnerable children and adults and (2) create effective linkages with clinical care services
  • Work with NGOs and relevant FHI staff at the zonal offices to facilitate the transfer of appropriate skills to people living with HIV (PLWH) and their families for prevention, support and care
  • Assist in the application of program evaluation results to modify existing programs and design new programs
  • Work with the Associate Director, Medical Services (Community) to develop orphans and vulnerable children sub-agreements with local Implementing agencies (IAs)
  • Contribute to FHI’s overall care and support technical strategy especially within the new PEPFAR guidelines
  • Provide technical assistance to FHI zonal offices to work with community based NGOs to facilitate the formation to community-based peer support structures for networking among children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and their care givers
  • Remain informed on current issues and best practices and contribute to FHI global lessons learned documentation of HIV/AIDS and OVC activities.
  • Represent FHI Nigeria to donors and government officials on OVC and care and support issues
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Associate Director, Medical Services (Community) and the Director Medical Services

Minimum Requirements

  • with 3-5 years or a registered with 5-7 years post- experience at the community level or in the private health sector.
  • Or similar degree and equivalent experience in public health, social sciences or other relevant areas.
  • Possession of an degree will be an advantage
  • At least 3 years experience in care and support at the community level with evidence of increasing official/professional responsibilities
  • Experience working with orphans and vulnerable children will be an advantage
