The West African Health Organization (WAHO) is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of:

Job Title: Professional Officer (Human Resources)

Grade: P4/1

Department/Office: Administration and Finance

Official Station/Country: Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso

Summary of post and assigned duties:

Under the supervision of the Director of Administration and Finance, the incumbent will support the development and implementation of policies relating to human resources within the West African Health Organisation (WAHO).

Description of Main Duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will:

  • Implement the recruitment policy and procedures in line with those of ECOWAS Commission (this includes updating job descriptions, preparing jobs advertisements, compiling             applications, participating in short listing, interviewing and selecting candidates);
  • Plan and implement an induction program for the new staff of the Organisation;
  • In collaboration with the Directorate develop a staff capacity building plan and ensure its implementation;
  • Handle employee relations, policies and procedures in collaboration with the Director of Administration and Finance
  • Plan, organize and supervise the Organization’s database in terms of Human resources operational functions (including salaries, benefits, absences, leaves, etc);
  • Responsible for the sensitization of the staff of the Organisation on staff rules and regulations;
  • Work closely with the Directorate and assist in its understanding and implementing HR policies and procedures;
  • Developing HR planning strategies with Directors, which consider immediate and long-term staff requirements in terms of numbers and skill levels; and
  • Follow up annual performance review and ensure the implementation of recommendations as appropriate.

Qualifications, Experience,

  1. A first degree in social sciences, humanities, or other relevant field
  2. A post graduate degree in human resources management or related field
  3. A minimum of 7 years professional experience in human resources management within an international or regional organisation
  4. Understanding of the complexities of working in a multicultural environment
  5. Excellent networking and communication skills
  6. Ability to organize work, manage multiple responsibilities and work as a part of a    team
  7. Demonstrate leadership, and the ability to address and resolve conflict
  8. Must be computer literate.

Language Proficiency:

Excellent knowledge (spoken and written) of one of the official languages of ECOWAS Commission English,

French and Portugues, and a working knowledge of the other.
