An international non-governmental organization working in the area of HIV and AIDS care and treatment requires applications from resourceful, experienced and dynamic candidates to fill the post of:

PALLIATIVE CARE OFFICER – Orphans & Vulnerable Children affected by HIV/AIDS (OVC)

Location:

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Central Clinical Unit to contribute to the strategic planning and implementation process and produce clear and timely strategies for the OVC component and implementation plans.
  • Design and implementation of community and Home Based Care package for OVC and the respective PABA at various delivery sites.
  • Participating in the review/development of standard operating procedures guidelines and standards of care tools for site support in collaboration with other relevant units.
  • Provision of ongoing mentoring and hands on supervision to site clinicians and other Community/Home based for effective OVC service delivery
  • Render technical support to facility staff in Basic Care & Support for OVC’s and PABA
  • Working with the Network Coordinators to map all relevant community care and support services and develop/strengthen inter-agency network for provision of care and support
  • Identify health educational, nutritional, economic and legal needs of OVCs enrolled in the program and provide linkage with available support services.
  • Steering role in supervising CBOs that can provide legal services for OVC and the respective PABA and advocacy to institutions offering free legal aid.
  • Work with other implementing partners, Government of Nigerian and Donor agencies to provide policy and technical guidance on OVC
  • Provision of technical assistance and mentorship on Home and community based care for CBOs working with OVC & PABA.

Qualifications

Candidate must possess degree in Medicine, Nursing, /Community Health, Social Work.

Should have minimum of two years experience in health program management

Minimum experience in coordinating OVC programs implementing with a good grasp of all components and current trend in Palliative Care.

Experience in the field of Child Health, survival and development in health care settings with strong supervisory and management skills is an added advantage

Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills and ability to foresee problems and initiate appropriate action.

Basic Training  skills is a must, should be a computer literacy.
