Position: Operations Research Advisor
Essential Functions
The Operations Research (OR) Advisor will have responsibility to guide the development of, implement, and disseminate the findings of key operations research activities related to MCH/FP/RH service delivery, and agreed in partnership with TSHIP partners. The OR Advisor will work closely with TSHIP Policy Advisors, M&E staff and the project Chief of Party.
OR is a targeted, practical, programmatic approach to comparing different models or different suggest solutions or approaches. The OR Advisor will lead State teams and local counterparts through a process of designing and implementing an evaluation of various service delivery models and producing evidence of the most effective models and approaches for a specific health outcome. This will involve an iterative and consultative process of identifying interventions to make programs and services better, choosing specific LGAs and sites to implement the interventions, selecting neighboring or similar LGAs as comparison areas where the new interventions will not be implemented, and evaluating the success of the new interventions. The OR Advisor will also be tasked with analyzing data forthcoming from operations research undertaken, working with program and M&E staff to institute mid-course project changes where necessary, and working with Policy Advisors to communicate the findings to policymakers at the state and national levels as well as other Nigerian and international stakeholders.
Person Specification
- An advanced degree in Public Health or Social Sciences and 7 + years experience in operations research of public health programs \
- Proven experience in study design, developing data collection tools, collecting quantitative and qualitative data, data analysis and data presentation
- Experience in managing research involving multiple stakeholders and development partners
- Experience in capacity building for research desirable
- Sound understanding of reproductive health and child survival health issues in Northern Nigeria.
- Strong and demonstrated organizational, personnel management and interpersonal relationship skills
- Excellent communications skills, including writing and oral presentation skills, Hausa language skills, strongly preferred
- Experience working in Northern Nigeria strongly preferred.
