AIDS Prevention Initiative in Nigeria (APIN) is a non-governmental donor-funded organization dedicated to the prevention, treatment, care and support of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. Since 2001, we have worked closely with key stakeholders, including government agencies, universities, other non-governmental organisations and donors to fight the HIV/Aids scourge.
APIN’s goal is not just to reduce the rate of growth of HIV epidemic in Nigeria, but also to ultimately reverse its course. Our prevention, treatment, care and support activities span forty –two sites in ten states of the Federation and are coordinated from our offices in Abuja, Lagos and Ibadan
As part of the key strategic initiatives of our transition, we are seeking qualified and competent persons to fill the position below:
Position: Clinical Pharmacist (Lagos)
The Clinical Pharmacist will report to the Chief Pharmacist and will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing clinical pharmacy activities of the program, including identifying, preventing, and/or resolving drug-related problems, as well as delivering training to relevant site personnel
Job Tasks
v Provide technical and programmatic support to ensure high quality, best practice HIV/AIDS prevention activities at program sites, including sexual and bio-medical preventions
v Review pharmacy database records on monthly basis to ensure use of appropriate antiretroviral therapy and liaise with the Chief Pharmacist, site pharmacists and physicians (where necessary) to resolve discrepancies
v Track and maintain records of approvals and clinical follow-up of patients requiring restricted drugs
v Identify on-going clinical pharmacy training needs for healthcare staff at the program office and sites; and coordinate the development and delivery of training/continuing education programmes
v Liaise with the sites on clinical drug-related issues, providing information and responding to enquiries there from
v Keep abreast with latest advancements and current practices in antiretroviral pharmacology and related topics/issues in the management of HIV, through continuous reading and understanding of conference abstracts/summaries and journal articles
v Maintain and provide data on current proportions of patients on regimens and coordinate discussions on targeted proportions during the annual antiretroviral forecasting exercise Develop a pharmaco-vigilance monitoring system at the site and central levels and coordinate the preparation and rendering of quarterly report on pharmaco-vigilance/adverse drug reaction to the USG
v Maintain up-to-date reference materials on antiretroviral dosing and adverse effects for distribution to sites, and update program level treatment protocols from time to time related to antiretroviral therapy as needed
v Participate in targeted site visits to address specific clinical or regimen reporting issue
Qualification and experience
A Bachelor’s degree and a post-graduate degree in Clinical Pharmacy or Pharmacology, or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree: and a minimum of four years of direct patient care activities with HIV-infected patients
Competencies
v Advanced understanding of antiretroviral pharmacology and clinical issue related to: antiretroviral therapy and management of HIV-infected patients
v Clinical application skills to apply pharmacology knowledge into clinical practice
v Understanding of general ARV treatment guidelines and ability to effective counsel patients on antiretroviral therapy and adherence
v Ability and desire to impart knowledge into others and to provide informative, effective lectures to a variety of audiences
