Our Client is a newly established agency of the Rivers State Government which is saddled with the responsibility of providing an enabling environment for infrastructural development and planning, investment promotion and housing projects, amongst others in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
SAMUELSON has been engaged by the Agency to identify proactive, development – oriented and skilled individuals, who are at home with conceptualizing, designing and implementing development initiatives. These individuals must be team players, high achievers and exceptional professionals with the requisite qualifications and track record to fill a number of top positions:
HEAD, LEGAL SERVICES (Ref: HLS 7)
Qualifications / Skills:
- A University Degree in Law, with minimum of second class division
- A professionally qualified solicitor or barrister with experience of operating at a senior level knowledge and experience
- Experience of providing strategic legal advice at Management Team and Board level in a complex organization
- An understanding of the legislative framework in which the public sector operates and the legal issues that are likely to affect the organization
- Negotiation skills.
Requirement for this position is as follow:
- Must be Rivers State indigenes
- Must have a minimum of 13 years post – graduation experience
- Must have strong verbal, written communication & inter-sectorial skills
- A postgraduate degree and/ or professional qualifications will be a distinct advantage
- Must be between 37 & 50 years of age.
Responsibilities / Scope of Work
- Organizing, preparing agendas for, and taking minutes of meetings
- Dealing with correspondence, collating information and writing reports, ensuring decisions made are communicated to the relevant stakeholders
- Contributing to meetings and discussions, as and when required, and advising members of the legal, governance, accounting and tax implications of proposed policies
- Liaising with external advisers, such as lawyers and auditors
- Acting as principal legal adviser to the Executive Team providing strategic and high level advice and support on issues affecting the organization
- Ensuring that the organization acts lawfully, that decisions are taken on the basis of sound legal advice and that the legal implications of its actions are understood
- Developing an in-house legal capacity that the achieves the optimum balance between advice that is provided internally and externally
- Ensuring that the legal advice available to the organization is constructive, correct, timely and cost effective.
