Over the last two years, the government of Imo State worked towards the re-branding of Ahiajoku Lecture series which has evolved into a cultural education of international repute. As part of the administration’s re-branding efforts, it has recently announced the institutionalization of the annual lecture series through the establishment of Ahiajoku Institute.
The Ahiajoku Institute will have overall responsibility for organizing the annual lecture series, researching into Igbo culture and social structure, exhibition of Igbo civilization’ indigenous local cuisine, artifacts, sculptures, organizing of youth cultural carnivals and production of publications, attracting tourists to the Institute, as well as ensuring the realization of a global brand objective.
To help drive this initiative, the State Government is seeking to recruit competent, dynamic and committed individuals to fill the below strategic
Position: Head, Accounts (GL14) – Ref No: ES00527
Reporting to the Director, Administration, the successful candidate will have oversight responsibility for the finance and accounts unit of the Institute. He/she will keep the Institute’s books of account, manage its financial resources and ensure conformity of ail financial reports with standard accounting policies and principles.
Specific responsibilities include to:
- Plan, direct organize and schedule the activities of the entire accounting function.
- Champion and facilitate the Institutes budgeting process.
- Develop, document and implement accounting and cost procedures of the Institute.
- Develop and champion internal control procedures for the operations of the Institute.
- Provide direction and consultation to the Institute’s management relating to fiscal planning, financial control and expending the Institute’s assets.
- Prepare and/or direct the preparation of financial reports, detailed cost accounting formation and analyses for management
- Interprets various accounting data, analyzes reports and recommends and/or initiate actions to be taken.
- Preparation of monthly and annual accounts.
- Review financial statements and advise on applicable changes for disclosure
Qualification, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A good first degree or its equivalent in Accounting or any related disciplines from a reputable institution.
- Relevant professional qualifications (ACA, C1MA, CPA, and ACCA) is essential
- Minimum of ten (12) years’ relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been spent in a senior management position.
- High ethical standards and integrity.
- Familiarity with various accounting software/packages.
- Good project management and planning, strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
In addition, eligible candidates for the above position should possess:
- Excellent knowledge of Igbo culture, history and traditions.
- Strategic orientation, good leadership skills with ability to motivate team members and manage budgets.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
