ACADEMIC VACANCY FOR THE POSITION OF PETROLEUM TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT FUND (PTDF) PROFESSORIAL CHAIR IN GEO SCIENCES
Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment into the position of Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Professorial Chair in Geology tenable in the Department of Geology, University of Maiduguri, Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria.
1.0 DUTIES
1.1 The Candidate shall teach relevant courses in Petroleum Engineering in undergraduate and graduate levels as well as carry out other academic duties as may be assigned by the University.
1.2 The candidate shall engage in research which shall comprise;
- “Petroleum Systems Analysis of Nigeria’s Inland Sedimentary Basins (Dahomey, Anambra, Benue, Bornu Basins”.
- “Evaluation of contributions of Cretaceous source rocks to Niger Delta Basin Petroleum”.
- “Reservoir Characterization of Niger Delta Fields and Rock Property Models, Onshore to Deep Water”.
1.3 The candidate shall have adequate research experience in the Research areas stated above.
1.4 Deliver an annual Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Lecture on topical issues in Petroleum Geology.
1.5 Establish and strengthen academic leadership in the fields of Geo sciences.
1.6 Provide Professorial and Community Services as well as carry out other academic and administrative responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department of Geology.
2.0 QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Candidate must be a Petroleum Geologist or a person appointable to the person of a professor who can make contributions in areas relevant to Petroleum Technology Development.
2.2 Possess a Ph.D or other equivalent degree in the relevant field of Geosciences
2.3 Should have a minimum of 10 (ten) years of teaching and research in any recognized University within or outside Nigeria. The number of publications, extensive research and academic experience etc for appointment to the position of a Professor shall also apply.
Supervision of Postgraduate Programme will be an added advantage
3.0 CONDITIONS OF SERVICE AND SALARY
The appointment is for a Professorial position in the University endowed by Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).
3.1 Salary: A competitive salary shall be offered which is equivalent of Professorial rank in Nigerian Universities and a top up, plus attractive enhancement incentives.
3.2 Other conditions governing the appointment of staff in the University of Maiduguri, Maiduguri shall also apply.
3.3 The appointment shall be for a three (3) year period m the first instance and is renewable for another two (2) years based on performance.
