Position: Local Construction Superintendents
A griteam Canada is the leading Canadian Executing Agency working in collaboration with the State Ministries of Health in Cross River and Bauchi to implement the Nigeria College/School of Health Technology & Primary Health Care Development Project supported by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The project has commitment to renovate and refurbish up to five existing primary health care facilities in Cross River and four in Bauchi States in the year 2010. The project is seeking to hire two (2) local short-term Construction Superintendents, one in each of the two project officers based in Cross River and Bauchi states to monitor, supervise and report on facility renovations.
Responsibilities;
- Reporting to the field Manager in Calabar, Cross River State and the Deputy Field Manager in Bauchi State, the Construction Superintendent in each State will work in collaboration with the selected Local Government Area authorities, health facility management and the project’s technical team to provide technical expertise, coordinate, supervise, monitor and report on all subcontracts and services related, to the renovation of the Identified Primary Health Care facilities in each state. The local Construction Superintendents will ensure all key project principles are promoted, particularly related to community participation and partnership, accountability and transparency, local ownership and sustainability. The local Construction Superintendents will also ensure that renovation on of health facilities follows and complies with Canadian and Nigeria Environmental Management Protocols.

Qualifications:
- A degree In architectural engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university; at least five years of experience in designing, implementing and supervising quality renovation of primary health care or similar facilities within Nigeria; familiarity with Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA); familiarity with Nigerian building codes, rules and regulations including Environmental impact Assessment and regulations related to siting and design of latrines and facilities for the safe disposal of medical waste; liaising with a variety of stakeholders including governments, non- governmental organizations, health and other service delivery agencies; demonstrated ability to ensure timely, accountable, transparent and effective use of funds and a high quality final product; knowledge of the local cultural and political contexts in Cross River and/or Bauchi States; ability/willingness to work under stressful conditions, including travel to rural and remote areas; excellent oral and written communication in English and excellent computer skills.
