Over the last two years, the government of Imo State worked towards the re-branding of Ahiajoku Lecture series which has evolved into a cultural education of international repute. As part of the administration’s re-branding efforts, it has recently announced the institutionalization of the annual lecture series through the establishment of Ahiajoku Institute.
The Ahiajoku Institute will have overall responsibility for organizing the annual lecture series, researching into Igbo culture and social structure, exhibition of Igbo civilization’ indigenous local cuisine, artifacts, sculptures, organizing of youth cultural carnivals and production of publications, attracting tourists to the Institute, as well as ensuring the realization of a global brand objective.
To help drive this initiative, the State Government is seeking to recruit competent, dynamic and committed individuals to fill the below strategic
Position: Head, Museum Unit (GL14) – Ref No: ES00529
Reporting to the Director of Culture, the successful candidates will coordinate and oversee the development, maintenance and operations of museums owned by the Institute.
Specific responsibilities include to:
- Develop and implement strategies for the development, management and sustainable maintenance of museums.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the museums under the Institute.
- Coordinate exhibitions of cultural and historical objects to promote Igbo cultural heritage and social structure.
- Direct and monitor the performance of third party operators in museums to ensure compliance with service level agreements,
- Develop annual operational plan and budgets, and set targets for the various planned and budgeted activities across the museums unit.
- Develop a strategy for identification and sourcing Igbo artifacts and sculptures and arrange for their exhibitions.
- Assist the Director of Culture in propagating Igbo cultural awareness, education and traditions,
- Work closely with the Research, Planning and Statistics department in researching Igbo culture, traditions and picture acquisitions for exhibitions and publications.
Qualification, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A good first degree in the Arts Humanities, Philosophy or other related disciplines from a reputable institution.
- Minimum of twelve (12) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been spent in a senior management position,
- High ethical standards and integrity,
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications,
- Ability to motivate team members, including third party management.
- Good project management and planning, strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills,
In addition, eligible candidates for the above position should possess:
- Excellent knowledge of Igbo culture, history and traditions.
- Strategic orientation, good leadership skills with ability to motivate team members and manage budgets.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
