Over the last two years, the government of Imo State worked towards the re-branding of Ahiajoku Lecture series which has evolved into a cultural education of international repute. As part of the administration’s re-branding efforts, it has recently announced the institutionalization of the annual lecture series through the establishment of Ahiajoku Institute.
The Ahiajoku Institute will have overall responsibility for organizing the annual lecture series, researching into Igbo culture and social structure, exhibition of Igbo civilization’ indigenous local cuisine, artifacts, sculptures, organizing of youth cultural carnivals and production of publications, attracting tourists to the Institute, as well as ensuring the realization of a global brand objective.
To help drive this initiative, the State Government is seeking to recruit competent, dynamic and committed individuals to fill the below strategic
Position: Head, Public Relations Unit (GL 14) – Ref No: ES00528
- Reporting to the Director General, the successful candidate will facilitate effective interactions with various stakeholders, including government departments, ministries, agencies, communities and media on the activities of the Institute. He/she will develop and execute proactive communication strategies to ensure positive public image for the institute. Specific responsibilities include to:
- Provide appropriate information to all stakeholders and coordinate the activities of the unit
- Develop and implement the Institute’s public relations and communications strategies to reach out to various stakeholders.
- Develop policies and processes which directly contribute to the promotion of the institute’s public image.
- Develop and maintain contacts with international, national, local and specialist media to maximize PR opportunities to promote the Institute’s activities, events and minimize negative publicity
- Oversee the development and management of an internal communications network to ensure that ail staff-are abreast of the Institute’s policies, achievements and to access source materials for publicity purposes.
- Draft press releases and articles for publication to promote the image of the Institute.
- Manage and monitor the PR unit’s budget to ensure that necessary financial resources are made available and that expenditure is kept within prescribed limits.
Qualification, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A good first degree or its equivalent in Mass Communications or any related disciplines from a reputable institution.
- Minimum of ten (12) years’ post- qualification experience in the media, information, communication and entertainment industry, three (3) of which must be at a senior management level either in the public or private sector media.
- Relevant PR or corporate communications experience.
- Outstanding team player, result-oriented and high energy level.
- Experience in electronic media is essential.
In addition, eligible candidates for the above position should possess:
- Excellent knowledge of Igbo culture, history and traditions.
- Strategic orientation, good leadership skills with ability to motivate team members and manage budgets.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
