Over the last two years, the government of Imo State worked towards the re-branding of Ahiajoku Lecture series which has evolved into a cultural education of international repute. As part of the administration’s re-branding efforts, it has recently announced the institutionalization of the annual lecture series through the establishment of Ahiajoku Institute.
The Ahiajoku Institute will have overall responsibility for organizing the annual lecture series, researching into Igbo culture and social structure, exhibition of Igbo civilization’ indigenous local cuisine, artifacts, sculptures, organizing of youth cultural carnivals and production of publications, attracting tourists to the Institute, as well as ensuring the realization of a global brand objective.
To help drive this initiative, the State Government is seeking to recruit competent, dynamic and committed individuals to fill the below strategic
Position: Director, Administration (GL16) -Ref No: ES00526
Reporting to the Director General, the successful candidate will have oversight responsibility for the entire administrative functions in the Institute. He/she will be responsible for the development an implementation of an effective administrative/operational system to position the Institute to fulfill its mandate. Specific responsibilities include to:
- Coordinate key administrative planning and the Institute’s developmental efforts.
- Direct and manage the activities of various functional units such as: finance/accounts, human resources, professional development, technology, insurance, and facilities.
- Oversee and implement special projects, including programme development efforts as assigned.
- Lead the development, implementation, and tracking of the Institute’s operating plan and performance management system, including developing and monitoring timelines and performance benchmarks.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Institute’s policies and procedures.
- Lead the creation and execution of key human resources policies, procedures and systems, including staff recruitment, orientation, documentation, training/development, and evaluation, payroll, and benefits administration.
- Ensure compliance with all legal requirements governing the institute.
- Oversee capital expenditure budgeting considering project cost, financial costs, cash flow and return on investment. Reviews existing capital investments to justify viability.
- Oversee the design and implementation of a procurement system that will meet federal procurement standards including Purchase requisitions, Purchase orders and Receiving.
Qualification, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A good first degree in any Social Science discipline or its equivalent from a reputable institution. Possession of higher qualification will be added advantage.
- Minimum of twelve (15) years’ post-qualification experience in a related industry, five (5) of which must be at a senior management level either in the public or private sector.
- Relevant experience in a similar position is a significant advantage,
- Outstanding team player, result-oriented and high energy level.
In addition, eligible candidates for the above position should possess:
- Excellent knowledge of Igbo culture, history and traditions.
- Strategic orientation, good leadership skills with ability to motivate team members and manage budgets.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
