Shell is currently seeking a , Plant * to work at the Albian Sands mining project.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the GM Services, this position is accountable for providing leadership and support to Shell in the areas of Process Engineering, Safeguarding Engineering (risk management) and Instrumentation & Control Engineering. Support will be for Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Projects and Business, as well as the Expansion Projects.  leadership will be provided in all areas of the Muskeg River Base Plant: Ore Preparation, Extraction, Froth Treatment and Utilities.
 
  • Process Engineering Team: Performance Evaluation, Optimization, Cost Reduction and Troubleshooting ideas, from concept to implementation and/or Design Basis Memorandum, as well as Process Control Strategies (Basic and / or Advanced Process Control) and plant tests for future scenarios or technology implementation.
  • Development and management of the Mass Balance: Bitumen and solvent, and Water and Energy in the future. Developing the main information required by the Shareholders, Stakeholders and Regulatory Agencies (ERCB, AENV, ABSA). Owner of the “As Built” process of the documentation: P&ID’s, PFD’s, Shut-Down keys, Functional Descriptions, ESD’s, etc.
  • Responsibility on the physical modifications in the plant and chemical treatments to enhance performance.
  • Safeguarding Engineering Team: Validation and assurance of the operation within operating windows. Risk evaluation of the operation and specific operational activities, Hazard Identification, Process Safety and Hazard and Effect Management Process, according to the industry standards, as well as coordination of the Hazops, Safeguarding Audits, Critical Task Analysis/Assessment, Safety Integrity Levels Assessment and Verification, Layer of Protection Analysis and Bow Ties.
  • Development, Management and “as built” of the Safeguarding Manuals, Safeguarding Memoranda, Bow Ties, Risk Assessments, Work Practices / Design and Engineering Standards, etc.
  • Instrumentation & Control Team: Optimization, Performance evaluation, Reliability Improvement and long term viability of the operating control system, as well as de-bottlenecking / capacity increase, addition of all new projects to the control system and avoidance of failures. This Control System is primarily Rockwell PLC’s for contrologix & SIS and Foxboro I/A Solarium DCS.
  • Development, Management and “as built” condition for all I&C documentation: Loop Drawings, Intools database, SDK / ESD’s, etc.
  • All three teams are responsible for Process Optimization, Troubleshooting, Cost Reduction, Reliability Improvement, Project development for the Base Plant and potentially integrating the Baseplant into the Expansion 1 timeframe, ensuring a flawless integration and start-up of the new facilities.
  • sponsorship and support of MRM Projects, as well as SCAN projects.

Requirements:

  • You must have legal authorization to work in for anyone other than your current employer.
  • Bachelor of Science Engineering or advanced degree.
  • Required discipline/field of study is Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 15 to 18 years of related work experience required.
  • Good verbal, written and reading of English is required.

  • P. Engineering - candidate must be a eligible for APEGGA designation.
  • Strong business background gained through experience and/or management/business training.
  • Clear understanding of the economic drivers of the Albain plant facility.
  • Strong ability to lead and manage a team spectrum of seasoned professionals and new graduates.
  • Able to keep abreast of the pace of change in technology and appropriately regulate the pace of adoption of those changes.
  • Ability to build strong relationships between diverse support and client groups.
  • Good understanding of the basics of Extraction, Ore Preparation, Froth Treatment, Solvent management and factors influencing quality in upstream and downstream units.
  • Ability to identify systemic organizational and issues and the energy to rectify them.
  • Proven leadership and communications skills.
