Duties/Responsibilities Directs the administration and operations of all campus buildings and utilities, making effective use of budgets, personnel, and other resources in support of the University’s operational objectives.
1. Directs the overall management of university maintenance activities including the areas of Building Maintenance, Utility Services, Residential Maintenance, Custodial and Grounds Services.
2. Provide Expertise, recommendations and coordination for all other Facility Maintenance departments at UH including Athletics and all auxiliaries.
3. Directs and responsible for minor renovations and small capital projects including in house construction crews and the University Capitol Repair and Deferred Maintenance activities.
4. Provide Expertise and coordination for other Facility Maintenance departments at all UHS campuses and assist the Associate Vice President for Plant Operations in coordinating with other campus Facility Directors.
5. Oversees managerial and supervisory staff and enforces standards for the hiring, training, evaluation and discipline of all facilities maintenance personnel.
6. Inspects work sites, facilities and buildings to ensure work is progressing as scheduled and meets established quality standards.
7. Manages operations and project budgets of varying fund types. Ensures funds are expended appropriately and effectively in fulfillment of university goals.
8. Reviews and approves cost estimates for facilities maintenance projects.
9. Coordinates facilities maintenance, renovation and small projects with Facilities Planning and Construction to ensure efficient use of resources including overseeing the small project team and in-house construction.
10. Develops and enforces operational procedures and best practices, ensuring compliance by facilities maintenance personnel with university policies and procedures.
11. Develops and monitors annual and project budgets for facilities maintenance. Coordinates planning and implementation of objectives.
12. Establishes and maintains a priority system for emergency responses.
13. Directs effective preventive maintenance, maintains a priority system for deferred maintenance, and implements and maintains quality assurance programs.
14. Represents the University on numerous committees and coordinates with departments and colleges including numerous meetings as required. Also represents UHS on state and regional facility organizations and at state meetings.
15. Serves as the Administration and Finance Representative on key campus committees. Also serves as key support and leadership for AVP for Plant Operations as required.
16. Performs other job-related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience required; nine (9) years experience preferred including experience in managing a major department that performs complex multiple duties.
