Ethicon, Inc., a member of Johnson & Johnson’s Family of Companies, is recruiting for an Engineering Manager, located in Somerville, .
Ethicon, Inc.- Develops and markets products within three divisions: Ethicon Products Worldwide for wound closure and tissue repair; Johnson & Johnson Wound Management with biosurgical technologies to manage intra-operative bleeding and postoperative leaking, as well as advanced wound care products; and Ethicon Women’s Health & Urology with minimally invasive gynecological and urological in stress urinary incontinence, pelvic floor repair and uterine disorders.
The Engineering Manager, under the direction of the Director of Supplier Management, has responsibility for overseeing all aspects of technical activity with third party manufacturers of finished goods. Key technical expertise is required in the areas of electro-, biosurgicals and device manufacturing along with the technical aspects of cost and process improvement. The Engineering Manager is responsible for a small team of . This role is part of a matrixed external manufacturing team with responsibilities that cut across all three of Ethicon’s business units (Wound Management, Ethicon Women’s Health and Urology and Ethicon Products). Will review and evaluates overall effectiveness of programs and process improvement operations for strategic 3rd Party subcontractors. Establishes project completion dates, projects workload sequences, coordinates cost estimates and maintains control of expenditures for technical projects. Develops team goals and objectives. Prepares estimates and appropriation request for capital expenditures. Approves expenditures within defined limits. Prepares and implements career development programs for direct reports. Participates and supports EH&S team in ensuring adherence to Johnson & Johnson Standards for Responsible External Manufacturing.

Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical discipline is required. An MBA is preferred. A minimum of 7+ years of experience in Operations and/or Research & Development is required. Experience with process excellence or lean is required. A Green or Black Belt certification is preferred. Electromechanical knowledge or experience is required, preferably in the medical device industry. A minimum of 2+ years of project management experience is preferred. Experience developing and managing a multi-year strategic plan is preferred. Experience collaborating across multiple business functions is required. Experience working with external suppliers is preferred. Experience with strengthening the supply base, leverage suppliers, driving supplier innovation, improving cost structures and building internal competencies is highly desirable. A minimum of 2+ years demonstrated experience working in a global environment is preferred. People management experience is preferred. Excellent interpersonal relationships and proven results in developing others is highly desirable. This position will require 10-20% domestic and international travel.
