MAJOR FUNCTION

Performs armed security duties to safeguard facilities and personnel and to prevent theft, damage and unauthorized access to County property.
MAJOR DUTIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

* Patrols on foot or by vehicle to ensure protection and security of personnel, equipment, buildings and grounds.
* Monitors walk thru metal detectors and xray scanning equipment to prevent the introduction of weapons and/or dangerous devices into the courthouse premises.
* Enforces traffic and parking regulations and performs routine accident investigations.
* Investigates unusual, suspicious, or extraordinary events and reports to or alerts the appropriate supervisor or agency.
* Inspects for fire hazards.
* Prepares written reports on tour activities, answers questions and guides visitors.
* Assists local law enforcement agencies as requested.
* Performs other related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

o Working knowledge of laws related to the use of firearms.
o Working knowledge of the operation of security scanning equipment.
o Working knowledge of local traffic and parking laws.
o Working knowledge of investigative techniques related to suspicious or unusual events.
o Some knowledge of the functions, services, procedures and regulations of an armed public security function for government and court agencies.
o Some knowledge of the layout of buildings and grounds occupied by County departments.
o Skill in identifying unusual or suspicious events.
o Skill in the use and care of firearms and related equipment.
o Ability to make appropriate decisions calmly and quickly in emergencies or hazardous situations.
o Ability to use scanning and x-ray equipment to recognize contraband.
o Ability and willingness to follow established procedures.
o Ability to work effectively with others.
o Ability and willingness to attend to detail.
o Ability to identify fire hazards.
o Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
One year of experience as a security guard, security officer or law enforcement officer; and
Possession of a valid State of Florida Class D (Security Officer) License, and Class G (Statewide Firearm) License or a certificate of training for completion of the initial Class G License training; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.
