This position supports Weyerhaeuser’s Cellulose Fibers business in Columbus, Mississippi. As one of the largest softwood pulp producers in the world, this location produces 1,400+ ADMT/day of bleached softwood pulp for use in paper and specialty products such as absorbent personal care products, pharmaceuticals, and photographic-based papers. Weyerhaeuser’s cellulose fiber manufacturing facilities are located across the United States and Canada.

Our Columbus Cellulose Fibers location in Columbus, Mississippi has an immediate opening for an Environmental, Health,& Safety Manager. This position is responsible to ensure the Columbus Cellulose Fibers (CCF) facility complies with applicable environmental, health, and safety laws, regulations and corporate policy and to certify to this requirement. It also provides satellite support to our Columbus Modified Fiber (CMF) sister facility. This position provides leadership, coordination, and technical expertise in the areas of safety, health, and environmental; establishing reliable methods for improving safety performance; nourishing a culture in which safety is an overriding value in all activities and in which every team member assumes accountability for safety, assuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
This position champions improvement projects and implements successful EH&S practices in a cost-effective manner. The EH&S Manager develops a win-win approach for implementing EH&S requirements, and provides leadership in developing, implementing, and managing EH&S policies, procedures, and practices. This role manages and coordinates a variety of safety aspects of the CCF safety program while revitalizing the emphasis in safety approaches.

* Implement Performance Management Process for all EH&S team members
Environmental Responsibilities
* Provide leadership to identify & implement required environmental capital projects
* Provide leadership to meet “zero defects” philosophy for immediate notifications and environmental process excursions
* Sponsor and ensure quality Emergency Preparedness; have adequate resources in place
* Act as liaison for Corporate EH&S interface
Safety Responsibilities
* Champion the overall site safety strategy for achieving 0.5 RIR performance
* Provide leadership to achieve Safety & Health Exchange Performance targets
* Coach & develop site safety resources
Performance Management Responsibilities
* Build the EH&S team and gain increased productivity by the integration and synergy of team skills/talents
* Develop personal relationships with each EH&S team member to understand their motivations and concerns and coach them in their professional growth.
* Lead, coach, mentor individual EH&S team members to a high level of personal effectiveness. Establish and manage to Performance Goals & Measures (PG&Ms).
General Responsibilities
* Ensure Columbus Cellulose Fibers (CCF) regulatory and Company policy requirements are met; site education requirements are met
* Communicate CCF progress on EH&S issues to the Mill Manager and the Management Council; Provide leadership as required to deliver performance requirements
* Consistently convey key leadership messages to EH&S team and the mill
* Provide adequate resources to the EH&S team to meet established goals
* Promote development, maintenance and superior execution of documented environmental, health and safety processes and procedures
* Champion safety and environmental stewardship to all CCF team members
* Attend, support and participate in pre-shift safety meetings, monthly Resource team safety & health team meetings and operating/maintenance safety & health team meetings.
* Effectively sponsor EH&S process Performance delivery - Provide leadership as appropriate for process deviations
Qualifications
This person is an experienced environmental manager, has solid expertise in EH&S regulatory and technical issues, and is capable of ensuring or managing CCF’s compliance, permitting, and environmental performance. The EH&S Manager is also capable of building strong relationships with key agencies and working with them to influence regulatory outcomes.
Technical Skills
* Strong knowledge of:
o Laws and regulations regarding air, water, solid waste, TSCA, RCRA, CERCLA, and SARA
o Environmental Management Systems to ISO 14001 standard
o Chemical Management
o Drinking water regulations
o SARA TRI reporting
o Solid Wastes Management
o RCRA regulations and hazardous wastes management
o Air Pollution Control Equipment: precipitators, scrubbers, incinerators
o Continuous Emissions Monitors
o Clean Water Act Regulation
o Clean Air Act Regulation
* Groundwater monitoring experience
* Title V and PSD permitting experience
* An understanding of Cluster Rule/MACT/Clean Condensate Alternative/LDAR
* NPDES permitting experience
* Wastewater treatment experience
* Receiving water experience

Required
* Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Safety or equivalent
* 5 - 10 years working experience in EH&S regulatory affairs
* 5 - 10 years successful experience managing a professional EH&S staff
* Minimum of 6 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment with a strong background in air regulatory compliance
* Appropriate Certifications (CSP, Incident Investigation, EMS auditing)
Preferred
* Post undergrad degree
* Pulp, paper, or chemical manufacturing experience
