Responsibilities:

- Participate and lead in Opportunity Evaluation projects, working within a multidisciplinary setting and delivering high quality assessments of the sub-surface together with the value and risks of the Opportunity
- The EPX-N Basin Framework Team also has the responsibility to help build and deploy Shell’s Regional Evaluation capability through active engagement in basin/play level analysis in both the Exploration new venture and held asset environments
- The EPX-N Basin Framework Team is also expected to define and maintain standards in Play-based Exploration (PBE) techniques and tools, building upon the successful capability improvement work done in 2006 (all senior team members have been and continue to be involved in this effort)
- Involved in independent evaluations, where relevant, building the Regional Knowledge Bases (including vitally important external links with partners, institutes and consultants) in a focus area to support opportunity assessments, and to proactively generate or identify new material opportunities for Shell
- Primary role will be to apply best practice methods of exploration evaluations to provide play-based assessments, opportunity evaluations and the identification of new material plays, leading to informed, timely, and actionable recommendations, for major investments
- Report directly to the appropriate EPX project leaders and/or the Business Opportunity Managers (BOMs) on all project-related issues and will also be expected to take a leading role in knowledge sharing, coaching and formal PBE training within the global exploration community and their teams
- Practice/apply personal creativity, effective project management, stakeholder relations, and delivery of quality products
- Appropriate content knowledge (skills, analogues and explorers track record & language skills) will be an advantage in the selection process
Requirements:
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Skill/Mastery level in at least one of the following core discipline areas: Seismic Interpretation, Structural Geology, Regional Geology or Stratigraphy, with an excellent understanding of the others
- Solid experience in an OU / NBD environment, including involvement in the formulation, construction and execution of regional studies, play-based assessments, opportunity evaluations, farmins, licence rounds, and a proven ability to identify and defend new plays in a multitude of different depositional and petroleum systems
- Familiarity with all key tools (BPA, PlayCraft, etc)
- Ability to work to a high level of technical competence, often under severe time constraints, and within a constantly changing business environment
- An established understanding and appreciation of the contribution made by other disciplines in a study team and maintaining an overview of the business needs is also required
- The New Ventures business environment is highly competitive and the ability to generate differentiated, attractive opportunities that go beyond the commodity-level understanding can be a strong enabler to winning
