Shell Trading Services Company is currently seeking a Advisor Mid-Atlantic.

Responsibilities:

This position is to ensure that Shipping/ ’s customers and STUSCO charterer’s/schedulers have in the field nautical expertise (available 24/7) to ensure safe, cost competitive and environmentally responsible shipping.  Ensure policy consistency and develop performance measurement and business improvement across the region particularly in respect of Risk Management: Ship/Shore Operations, Ship Vetting, Coasters and Barges Standards, Incident Management and Terminal Audits.

Commercial Performance:
  • Measure and manage improvement in levels of vessel/terminal performance, levels of oil loss and demurrage as a result of local operations
Business Assurance:
  • Ensure that service level agreements are appropriate and ensure compliance with appropriate business controls and self-appraisal of business processes
  • Provide consultancy service to managers of depots, terminals and refineries
  • Support product supply to the regional downstream operations
  • Deliver effective, fit for purpose shipping & advice, support and problem solving
  • Add value through cost reduction, loss and risk management
  • Operate safely within Industry, Company and National requirements
  • As directed, support the exercise of local oil spill response plans, and support the management of any ship/shore anti pollution interface
  • Build and develop understanding and competence levels of local staff
  • Conduct SIRE ship inspections and coastal/inland barge inspections
  • Support HSE advisers in the accurate mapping of HSE critical activities of shipping operations and the development of HSE MS for local shipping supply

Requirements:
The incumbent is expected to provide shipping & support and advice to STUSCO and MOTIVA locations on the US Mid Atlantic Region. The mission is to add value to the waterfront activities at the various sites (Mid Atlantic distribution terminals).  Direct support is to be provided to MOTIVA Product’s supply/schedulers and STUSCO trading and chartering/scheduling staff.  Provide nautical expertise to enhance the management of all aspects of the ship/shore interface, including, commercial and risk management issues, incident avoidance/containment & response and involving third parties. To represent STUSCO interests in issues with regulatory and port authorities and other external bodies. The performance of the incumbent will also be judged on value added to the business. He or she will be part of a team of MTA’s managed from Houston.

You may reside near Bridgeport, CT or Providence, RI.

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Thorough knowledge of shipping operations and ship/shore interface management
  • Senior Officer experience on tankers
  • Exposure to MSD OP Unit environment would be an advantage

Qualifications:

  • First Class Certificate of Competency with Petroleum / Gas Dangerous Cargo endorsement
  • SIRE accreditation would be an advantage but is not required

  • Self-Motivated, mature professional with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and develop proposals and solutions to a wide range of and operational problems
  • Ability to manage and integrate with others in different functions
  • Good communicator, both written and oral
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (including teamwork) are essential for success in this position
