Overview:
The senior communications specialist assists the director with developing and implementing all public relations and marketing activities for the hospital system and its programs and services in support of the hospital system’s strategic goals. Primary functions include developing and executing communication plans, managing publications, participating in media relations activities and providing support for individual product lines, hospital departments and administration. The senior communications specialist also oversees day-to-day operations, maintenance and content development of hospital Web sites and Intranet. See attached detail outlining the major functions.

Responsibilities:
• Provides public relations and marketing support for overall hospital programs and services.
• Coordinates proactive and reactive media relations activities, including writing and distributing news releases, handling media calls for patient information or story development and pitching story ideas to the media.
• Coordinates production of various hospital publications and collateral material.
• Coordinates Internet and Intranet activities, including site development and content management.
• Is responsible for PR and marketing functions of individual service lines and hospital departments.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, advertising or communications necessary and five or more years of healthcare or related marketing and public relations professional work experience.
• Additional qualifications include strong written and verbal communications skills; an ability to develop strategies and plans to support public relations and marketing goals and objectives; and demonstrate strong service excellence skills.
• Proficiency with computers, particularly in word processing, desktop publishing, graphic design, various software programs and Web site development required.
