Ketchum Sports and Entertainment - Director, Culture and Connections
General Responsibilities:
Responsible for successfully linking client brands with appropriate and relevant celebrities, influencers, and visionaries through spokesperson/endorsement deals, events, and other associations. Plays a key role in new business development and ongoing idea generation for existing client base.
Specific Responsibilities:
Senior Counsel
* Serves as KSEM’s subject matter expert on industry trend setters in entertainment, music, fashion, design, restaurants, hotels, clubs, etc.
* Provide senior counsel to KSEM staff, agency, account teams and clients on unique, non-traditional partnerships and alignments
* Identify and negotiate agreements with celebrities, influencers, visionaries and news-makers
* Proactively and reactively recommends appropriate talent and celebrity associations and opportunities to address specific goals of agency clients
* Develops and maintains strong relationships with relevant influencers through relationships with managers, agents, and publicists
* Stays abreast of industry news and responds to developing trends by appropriately reshaping and refining agency’s celebrity and talent relations strategy
Talent Negotiation
* Recommends appropriate partnership or talent options in response to account team inquiries
* Negotiates terms of contracts to maximize return for agency clients, ensuring that agreements provide appropriate protections for clients and agency
* Work closely with account teams and agency finance staff to ensure complete and timely execution of agreement terms
Business Development
* Shape an overall approach to brand alignment with celebrities, influencers and trend-setters for the agency and identifies specific areas of engagement to accelerate business growth
* Actively seeks and secures new business opportunities for KSEM through existing client accounts and from new clients
* Works closely with agency account teams to identify opportunities to incorporate partnerships and influencers into client proposals and programs
* Engages actively in new business generation by creating and/or contributing to proposals, participating in brainstorms, participating in pitches, etc.
Managerial Responsibilities
* Develops and maintains strong relationships with key account team and practice leads throughout the agency
* Meets regularly with key practice heads to solidify relationships, better understand their business needs, gain feedback and ensure consistent work flow
* Reinforces Ketchum Values through team building exercises and through example
* Works with HR to develop trend-spotting skills among KSEM staff
* Assists and guides direct reports in areas such as staff utilization, recruitment, employee goal setting, development plans, and financial goals (billability)
* Works closely with team to effectively evaluate their capabilities and performance. Reports to director when staff deserves recognition, whether positive or negative
* Oversees group P&L and effectively manages group and project budgets
* Provides income projections and performs administrative functions related to execution of the annual business plan and meeting defined income and profit objectives
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skills and knowledge for successful performance would qualify. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
* Must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in entertainment public relations, talent agency, talent management or a similar position
* Must have strong, demonstrable relationships with talent and talent management
* Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing or related field
* Excellent management, negotiation, writing and presentation skills required
* Legal experience a plus
* Demonstrable experience in linking brand marketing clients with talent and related opportunities is preferred
