The Region of the Office of Children’s Services is recruiting to fill a Children’s Services Supervisor position; (Social Worker IV).

The incumbent should be able to organize, direct and assume full responsibility for the delivery of professional children’s protective services. You will oversee and supervise a staff of up to 8 professionals.

The supervisor selected for this position will exercise the full range of skills necessary to ensure the welfare and healthy growth of Alaska’s children and families.

Duties will include:

* Applying leadership and skills, modeling appropriate behavior.
* Daily of individuals providing children’s protective services.
* Overseeing casework schedules, managing workloads, ensuring quality procedures.
* Identifying training needs; providing training as required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

* Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and legal aspects of social work.
* Considerable knowledge of casework techniques and .
* Considerable knowledge of human behavior dynamics.
* Ability to instruct, motivate and supervise subordinates.

Special Note:
An individual who has graduated with a degree in social work from an and who is otherwise eligible for licensure as a social worker in the State of Alaska may apply for a vacancy. An applicant qualifying under this option may receive a job offer conditional upon completion of the licensing requirement. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting for duty.

As of July 1, 2001, a Social Worker license issued by the State of Alaska is required for all persons initially hired into this job class. Continued employment as a Social Worker requires employees to adhere to the Social Worker licensing requirements in accordance with Alaska Statutes and regulations. Refer to AS 08.95 Social Workers and 12 AAC 18 Board of Social Work Examiner, administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development, Division of Occupational Licensing.

Incumbents in this job class who meet the first minimum qualification requirement shall be assigned the title Children’s Services Supervisor. Incumbents in this job class who meet the second or third minimum qualification requirement shall be assigned the title Social Worker IV (Children’s Services).

All positions require a valid Alaska driver’s license and successful completion of a background investigation, including fingerprinting and a criminal records check.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in a social, behavioral, or health science or in law or a closely related field; and one year of professional experience equivalent to Children’s Services Specialist III, Social Worker II, or Social Worker II (Children’s Services) directed at providing health or social services to individuals, families, or groups to assist them in achieving more adequate, satisfying, and productive social adjustment.

OR
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in a social, behavioral, or health science or in law or a closely related field; and three years of professional experience equivalent to Children’s Services Specialist II directed at providing health or social services to individuals, families, or groups to assist them in achieving more adequate, satisfying, and productive social adjustment.

OR
Possession of a current Social Worker license issued by the State of Alaska (see “Special Note”) and one year of full proficiency-level professional experience equivalent to Children’s Services Specialist II directed at providing health or social services to individuals, families, or groups to assist them in achieving more adequate, satisfying, and productive social adjustment.

OR
