Job Description
JOB TITLE:
Treasury Analyst II, Corporate Finance
JOB OBJECTIVE:
Treasury Analyst position is essential to help develop Treasury team to best practice standards. As a member of Capital Markets Group treasury analyst will support the team in front office activities and carrying out quantitative analysis and reporting tasks. Treasury analyst will work closely with all levels of management and external counterparties.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Executes the issuance of Canadian Commercial Paper. Follows execution strategy and supports Treasury Specialist in decision making process to ensure efficient and accurate issuance. Understands maturity decisions in light of backstop capacity and anticipated Bank of Canada rate changes.
* Responsible for forecasting CAD borrowing needs by taking into account longer dated maturities, European cash, and working capital needs/trends.
* Responsible for execution of Canadian investments within stated guidelines. Understands the bigger picture of investing in order to take an advantage of arbitrage between borrowing and investment rates. Recognizes investment opportunity and proposes new strategy to management.
* Responsible for following economic indicators and providing senior management with timely information as to market trends in order that appropriate action can be taken in managing funding and interest rate exposures.
* Responsible for all payments associated with debt instruments. Senior Treasury Analyst is the go-to person for Shared Services debt payment issues. Resolves payment issues and communicates outcomes to the appropriate internal and external parties.
* Supports Treasury Specialist in month-end package (”MEP”) for interest expense that is provided to Corporate Accounting. Supports the MEP process and performs reasonableness testing following the preparation of the package by a treasury colleague and the delivery of the package to Corporate Accounting. Senior Treasury Analyst is the go-to person for Corporate Accounting related to interest expense, accrual, and amortization issues. Resolves accounting issues and communicates outcomes to the appropriate internal parties.
* Responsible for elements of quarterly and annual reporting for SEC filings, annual report, management reporting, and oversight of debt compliance reporting. Increased reporting responsibilities include Rating Agency filings, Federal Reserve filing, maintaining counterparty credit ratings, providing Treasury Strip levels to accounting for valuation of stock options, as well as tracking and reporting liquidity, such as global credit facility available backstop, shelf utilization, and monthly liquidity report for the Treasurer.
* Supports Treasury Specialist in maintaining/implementing Treasury Workstation software as it relates to debt (including notes, commercial paper, inter-company debt, capital leases, and non-compete agreements), investments, interest rate swaps, forecasting and reporting. Sets up G/L account codes, accounting and posting rules, as well as bank account defaults in Quantum. Trouble shoots issues in reporting for debt that is live in SAP. Shares responsibility in loading and testing the US debt portfolio (9 Billion) and in the designing/development of management reports using Crystal Reports software. Responsible for maintaining connectivity with external data sources (Scotia Note, Citibank, Bloomberg, etc.) and advising management of necessary changes to ensure operational efficiencies.
* Executes/creates reporting of stock transactions. Understands the facts, works with internal and external contacts to gather data and authorizations necessary to execute strategy. Plans strategy with Treasury Specialist and executes/reports trades through broker.
* Responsible for monthly interest rate swap mark-to-market reporting and economic explanations for changes in the value of the swaps relative to market conditions.
* Treasury Analyst must demonstrate analytically skills, sound solution development, and the ability to communicate to all levels of management and external parties.
* Special projects, as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* Undergraduate degree required
* Advanced degree, CTP certification preferred
* 1-3 years in treasury or other financial role
