On February 13, 2008, the New York Racing Association, which had owned and operated Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course since 1955, was awarded a 25-year franchise to run Thoroughbred racing at New York’s three major tracks: In 2007, 11 Breeders’ Cup winners raced and/or trained at Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga. In 2008, defending Horse of the Year Curlin was based at Belmont Park and Saratoga during a campaign that eventually made him North American racing’s all-time leading money earner and the first American horse to reach $10 million in career earnings.

At Aqueduct in South Ozone Park, Queens, the construction of a casino with 4,500 Video Lottery Terminals (such as video poker, video slot machines, etc.) is expected to be completed by 2010.

Position Responsibilities:

• Preparation and/or review of standard monthly journal entries.
• Preparation of account analyses and reconciliations in support of the monthly, quarterly, and annual book closes.
• Bank reconciliations.
• Assist with ad hoc and internal management requests.
• Ensure that all relevant key controls are in place and functioning properly in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
• Assist internal and external auditors with reviews and year-end audit.
• Monthly variance analysis.

Qualifications:

• 4+ years experience in a professional accounting environment.
• B.S. in Accountancy required.
• Strong PC skills (Microsoft Office, general ledger packages, management reporting systems, etc.).
• Detail oriented with good organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure in a deadline driven environment.
• Strong analytical skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
• Knowledge of Great Plains Dynamics and FRX a plus.
